Pine-Richland High School had to make a few changes for its annual Sadie Hawkins Court event because of covid restrictions, but the long-standing tradition of selecting boys to the court with girls serving as their escorts continues.

The student government-sponsored event was held Feb. 9 and included a ceremony naming members of the court and a performance by the cheer-leading squad and dance team.

The event usually includes a basketball game between court members and the faculty as well as a dance, but those activities had to be canceled because of covid restrictions and bad weather, according to Lindsay Brough, who sponsors the student government organization.

The members of the 2022 Sadie Hawkins Court are Tyler Armstrong, Miles Brown (King), Joey Dudkowski (2nd Runner-Up), Jeremiah Hasley, Marc Huber, Jack Maurer, Esai Morse (1st Runner-Up), Jameson O’Toole, Andy Swartout and Mason Wells.

Court escorts are Abby DeWick, Cameron Perks, Morgan Singh, Jaclyn Murray, Taylor Shriber, Katarina Hudock, Ella Kasperowicz, Erica Hudock, Jennifer Betush, and Halley Snyder.

Sadie Hawkins events originally were inspired by a 1937 storyline in the hillbilly comic strip “Li’l Abner” in which the women in the town of Dogpatch ask the men for a date to the dance.
