Pine hosts Winter Special Needs Family Fun Day
Special needs children and their families enjoyed an afternoon of fun at the Pine Community Center on Jan. 13.
The annual Winter Special Needs Family Fun Day was free to attend and open to all ages. Ninety participants were in attendance.
This year’s theme was penguins, and the day featured crafts, games, music and lunch. Coach Dave Gray, the positivity-promoting “Mister Rogers of Youth Sports,” was present to lead children in the games.
The event was put on in partnership with the Recreation Alliance of North Pittsburgh, which is made up of local parks and recreation departments including those in Pine, Richland, Marshall and Ross townships. Companies involved with the alliance include Pashek+MTR, Play Park Structures and PA Connecting Communities.
“The alliance enables us to share resources, facilities and advertising to best serve our region and individual communities,” Pine parks and recreation director Pete Geis said.
RANP helps put on programs such as movies in the park, vendor fairs, tours and special needs activities.
