Richland History Group

The Northern Tier Regional Library, in conjunction with the Richland History Group, is holding a free program “The Underground Railroad in Northern Allegheny County,” Dec. 9 at the library on Dickey Road in Richland from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Acting Richland History Group president Paul R. White will give a one-hour slide presentation detailing the specifics of four local mid-19th century stations and their station masters. Three of these stations still stand in the community today as a testiment to their historic service. Richland resident Alberta Altmeyer will display examples of quilts containing designs that gave passengers and conductors secret railroad information. Pre-register by either calling the library at 724-449-2665 or online at northerntierlibrary.org.

Bakerstown UMC

A free Christmas concert will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 featuring the Ellwood City Area Civic Chorale and Bakerstown UMC Sanctuary Choir and Glory Ringers. A free-will offering will give proceeds to benefit the Mission Team.

A Blue Christmas Service will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 20. It is a service of reflection, remembrance, healing and hope.
