Comcast expanding services to Pine Township

Comcast is expanding its services into Pine after all. The issue of Pine entering into a franchise agreement was previously tabled at the Oct. 16 board of supervisors meeting due to a dispute over the service area.

After additional discussions, Comcast said it was willing to state in the agreement that the company would build past the initial buildout — but was unwilling to place specific terms on the buildout area or timeframe other than agreeing to meet with the township annually to review the area.

The ordinance was approved unanimously at Pine’s Nov. 6 board of supervisors meeting.

“Comcast approached the municipality about bringing their services into Pine Township. While disappointed that the initial build out would only serve a portion of the community, we were pleased when Comcast stated that they would continue to evaluate the services in Pine Township and expand beyond the initial buildout as possible,” township manager Jason Kratsas said. “We look forward to seeing Comcast provide their services in our community.”

The next steps are for Comcast to start pulling construction permits to start building the system. The township expects that Comcast will spend the next couple of months getting prepared and projects the start of construction in the first quarter of 2024.
