Competing Black Lives Matter and Back the Blue rallies were held in Shaler on Saturday.

The Black Lives Matter rally formed outside of Shaler Middle School and was organized by Suburban Action, a group of local Shaler students and recent graduates who “saw a need to take action, not just in Pittsburgh, but here in Shaler, too,” according to organizer PJ Squires.

The smaller Back the Blue rally started down the block, but eventually moved to a space across from the Black Lives Matter group along Mount Royal Boulevard.

Words were exchanged between the two groups, but protesters on both sides dispersed without incident after about an hour.
