Penn-Trafford students earn $10K video prize

Penn-Trafford High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions club was awarded $10,000 for its public service announcement video on the issue of distracted driving.

Penn-Trafford won second place among 38 Pennsylvania schools for its “Drive Distracted Free” video in the Pennsylvania Just Drive Public Service Announcement contest. The 30-second video was created by students with the help of alumnus Ryan Mickey.

The $10,000 will be used for various programs to promote safe driving, said Patricia Arzenti, SADD faculty adviser.

NJM Insurance Group sponsored the contest in partnership with the Pennsylvania DUI Association.

Penn Township seeks summer help

Penn Township is seeking seasonal summer workers 18 and older who want to earn $15 an hour for the municipality’s public works department to mow grass, use powered lawn equipment and to do general labor, such as painting and collecting garbage from park receptacles.

The 40-hour per week position lasts for about 13 weeks, from May to August. The work schedule is 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Applicants must have a driver’s license, undergo a criminal background check and be willing to sign a release authorizing access to their driving record when they apply. Township residents will be given preference.

Manor Lions to hold chicken barbecue sale

The Manor Lions Club will hold a chicken barbecue sale beginning at 11 a.m. May 14 in the Roberts Roofing parking lot, Route 993, Manor.

The sale will continue until sellout. The meal consists of a one-half chicken, applesauce, roll, cookie and drink for $10.

All proceeds go to Lions charities. For more information, call 724-787-3954.

Yard sale to benefit Girl Scouts

A community yard sale to benefit Girl Scout Troop 26664 will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21 at the Community United Methodist Church parking lot, 3487 Route 130, Penn Township.

Vendors and crafters can sell their wares at the yard sale. Sixty spots are available at a fee of $15 or $20.

Registration set for Safety Town

Registration is open until May 27 for the Community Women’s Club of Level Green program Safety Town, designed to teach basic safety measures and awareness lessons to youngsters.

The program will take place daily from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 20 to 24 at the the Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive. Children who are entering kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year are eligible to attend.

The Penn Township Police Department, Penn Township Ambulance, Level Green Volunteer Fire Department and First Student Bus Company will be part of the epigram.

Registration is required and space is limited. The cost is $60, with discounts for families with more than one child participating. Registration forms with complete information are available at www.levelgreenwomensclub.org.
