Bushy Run Lions to offer scholarships

The Bushy Run Lions Club will award five scholarships to Penn-Trafford High School graduates, or graduates from other area schools who live in the club’s service area.

The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, community activities, extra-curricular activities, a written statement and financial need.

To be eligible, the students must have been accepted for admission to an accredited college or university or a school requiring at least two years of study.

The club will award three Carl R. Bruno Scholarships in the amount 0f $1,000 each, named for an early superintendent of the combined Penn-Trafford School District and a longtime Bushy Run Lion member.

The fourth scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a music- or arts-related degree. This $1,000 scholarship is named in honor of the late Emery Toth, the first director of the Penn-Trafford High School Band.

The fifth scholarship, $500, is named in honor of the late Terry M. Perich, a longtime educator in Penn-Trafford.

The club has awarded 126 scholarships over the past 31 years.

Information is available through the Penn-Trafford High School guidance office or the school library. For those not attending Penn-Trafford, information and applications can be obtained by contacting Lion Joe DiDomenico at 724-744-3915.

The deadline for applications is March 31. Recipients will be named at the Penn-Trafford High School awards ceremony in May.
