Penn Hills charged and fined a Wilkinsburg man Friday they say illegally dumped on Beechford Road on two separate occasions.
Ricky Stallworth Jr., 34, of Wilkinsburg was charged July 8 for dumping debris, furniture and garbage on Beechford Road. He was also charged on July 12 for incidents that occurred in May and again in early July.
He now faces two separate fines amounting to $4,000, plus clean-up costs.
The charge is the latest in a string by Penn Hills Code Enforcement after it declared war on illegal dumpers on July 8, when it charged and fined Stallworth and two other men.
The municipality’s new strategy includes placing eight cameras at common dump illegal sites in Penn Hills, increasing the fines to a maximum of $2,000 and installing signs at dump sites that warn offenders of fines and the use of cameras.
Penn Hills Manager Scott Andrejchak said he and council members are looking into the possibility of changing Penn Hills’ ordinance to allow it to file criminal offenses instead of civil.
“Penn Hills will continue to identify, charge and sanction those who dump illegally in the community,” Andrejchak said. “The municipality and government center are committed to fighting a war against illegal dumping no matter how long it takes to win — we will prevail.”
