Verona Farmers Market attendees can expect to see some new and familiar faces at Railroad Park every Thursday through mid-November.

This year’s market season kicked off June 1 with a variety of vendors, entertainers and a taco food truck.

Balloon artist Ray Lucas made animals and other creations for children and guests.

State Rep. Joe McAndrew, D-Penn Hills, talked with constituents and had an information tent with pamphlets on programs for seniors.

Other vendors on opening day included Tom’s Candy, Herb’n Nature, Adagio Health, Grow Pittsburgh, Cotton Candy Creations and Bentley’s Doggie Bistro.

“Our first market day went better than the last three years,” said market coordinator Stefani Garibay. “Plenty of vendors and community attendees. This year, we have a majority of new vendors with a couple returns.

“Food trucks will be more present this year than in the past. We are always accepting food trucks and vendors. The more the merrier.”

Bull River Taco was opening day’s food vendor. Other food vendors scheduled to participate this season include Tom’s Diner, Foxy Frans, Emporio Meatball and Millie’s Ice Creak Truck.

Sarver-based La Vigneta Winery and Inner Groove Brewing in Verona offered samples of their beverages.

Beth Clites of Verona purchased three bottles from the winery. She recommended the rosé and chardonnay.

Jessica Salerno of New Kensington brought her crystals and other metaphysical items for sale through her business, Saging Space.

“We’re first-timers (at the market),” Salerno said. “My best friend (at Alva’s Apothecary) has done Botany & Booze for a couple years. I did it with her last year (and this year). Everyone who vended with them got invited to the farmers market, so we’re trying to enjoy it this year. It’s good so far. It’s a beautiful sunny day. Can’t complain.”

The market in the park next to the borough building is open rain or shine from 2-7 p.m. Thursdays through Nov. 12.

Vendors may change each week. More information and photos from the market is available at facebook.com/veronafarmers.
