Penn Hills High School basketball players Daemar Kelly and Robert Thomas join school board president Erin Vecchio and state Rep. Joe McAndrew, D-Penn Hills, to receive a proclamation from the representative at a board meeting May 31.

State Rep. Joe McAndrew, D-Penn Hills, delivered a proclamation to the Penn Hills High School basketball team in celebration of their WPIAL championship this school year.

Coach Chris Giles led his players to a 70-65 win over Peters Township for the Class 5A title at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh in March.

McAndrew presented his proclamation at a school board meeting on May 31.

Senior Daemar Kelly and junior Robert Thomas accepted it on behalf of the team.

Board members also commended Giles and the student-athletes on an outstanding season.

The Indians’ season came to an end on March 17 in Sharon with a 68-54 loss to Cathedral Prep in the PIAA quarterfinals.
