PennDOT to host Real ID service event in Penn Hills
PennDOT’s Penn Hills Driver’s License Center will open its doors for a special Real ID service event Feb. 10.
While having a Real ID in Pennsylvania is optional, travelers will be required after May 7 to present a Real ID to fly domestically, enter a military base and enter certain federal facilities that require a federally acceptable form of ID.
In an effort to prepare Pennsylvania residents for the upcoming federal enforcement, the center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those interested in getting their Real IDs. This is one of multiple “Real ID Days” hosted by PennDOT across the state.
“We’re committed to ensuring our customers are ready for the Real ID enforcement deadline of May 7,” said Kara Templeton, PennDOT’s deputy secretary for driver and vehicle services. “By offering special hours on a day when our centers are typically closed, we’re providing an additional opportunity for those who want to obtain a Real ID and be prepared. We are always looking for ways to provide a better service to residents, and our Real ID Days accomplish that mission.”
According to PennDOT, more than 2.5 million Pennsylvanians have chosen to opt in to Real ID.
