Penn Hills Council’s July 20 meeting to be held virtually amid rising coronavirus numbers

Penn Hills Council will continue to meet virtually for its July meeting as Allegheny County sees an increase in coronavirus cases.

The format of July 20’s meeting was left tentative, with hopes Council Chambers could once again be used, said Mayor Pauline Calabrese. The last time council met in person for a meeting was Feb. 17. The meeting in March was canceled, and council meetings in April and May were held virtually. The June meeting also was canceled.

“With cases spiking, I don’t see how we could meet in person,” she said.

The Allegheny County Health Department reported 71 new cases Monday, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 4,842 and probable cases to 191. Monday’s numbers reflect a slight decrease in new cases, but officials remain cautious amid rising case numbers. The county saw a record-setting 233 cases on July 2.
