Penn Hills boy takes 2nd place in regional Rotary spelling bee
A Penn Hills boy took home second place at the Rotary’s regional spelling bee June 29.
Vincent Olisa, a rising fourth grader in the Penn Hills School District, was selected to compete after winning the Rotary’s annual third grade spelling bee in May at Linton Middle School, where he competed against his classmates and students from Penn Hills Charter School.
During the June 29 competition, Vincent spelled his way through 15 rounds of words before falling at the word gospel. He competed against 11 other children from throughout the Pittsburgh area.
“It was really nice to have Penn Hills represented there and to have a Penn Hills student take home second place,” said Tyler Tomasino, Penn Hills Rotary president.
The yearly spelling bee is part of the Rotary’s third grade dictionary program. In the past 15 years, the Penn Hills Rotary has donated 6,000 dictionaries to charter, religious and public school classrooms in the community.
