Penn Hills area coronavirus numbers among highest in eastern suburbs

As coronavirus cases continue to surge in Allegheny County and across the country, the Penn Hills area’s numbers remain among the highest in the eastern suburbs.

As of Dec. 16, there have been 1,389 total cases of the novel coronavirus in Penn Hills since March, according to the latest information provided by an interactive Allegheny County covid-19 map. A total of 24 deaths have been reported. Those numbers include an increase of 252 cases and seven deaths in just the past week.

A total of 9,472 tests have been administered to Penn Hills residents. The case rate in Penn Hills is 328 per 10,000 residents, or 3.3%.

Since the pandemic began, Verona has had 63 cases. One death has been reported, and 551 Verona residents have had tests administered. The case rate in Verona is 2,227 per 10,000 residents, or 22.3%.
