The large and small pools at Linton Middle School are set to reopen after undergoing repairs two years in the making.

After years of inactivity, the large pool at Linton Middle School will be back in use for the district’s swim team.

The pool has been inoperable because of maintenance issues and repairs since the spring of 2022. Since then, Penn Hills swim team members have hosted home meets at the Olympic Swim & Health Club.

Michael Reposky, director of the district’s plant services, said the large pool underwent a full renovation and can be opened for use pending a final inspection from the Allegheny County Department of Health, which was scheduled Nov. 27.

“As long as the inspection goes well, we’re ready to use it for the swim team,” Reposky said.

The pool underwent a medley of upgrades and repairs over the past few months, including new decking and pool drains, a complete ceramic tile update, a new filtration system and a new pool heater.

“There was a lot of damage to the drain gutter that goes around (the pool),” Reposky said. “That had to be completely repaired.”

The project cost the district just under $650,000 out of the capital funds budget.

As the pool becomes available for use, the district will be working to make repairs to the middle school’s small pool as well, Reposky said. When he started with the district in June, both pools had been drained and were awaiting repairs. He said construction for the small pool is already underway.

“It’s pretty much the same repairs,” he said.

The small pool also will have its drains replaced, a custom liner inserted and new decking. That pool was closed around the same time as the large pool, Reposky said.

“It’s going to be a long-term solution for that pool,” he said.
