Members of the Penn Hills community are mourning the loss of a young police officer.

The Penn Hills Police Department announced the passing of 26-year-old Ryan Kingerski of Monreoville on social media Wednesday morning.

“Officer Kingerski served with unwavering commitment and professionalism, always putting the safety and well-being of our community first,” the post read. “This loss is felt deeply by all of us who had the honor to work alongside him.”

Kingerski served as an officer for the department for the last three years. According to the Allegheny Medical Examiner’s Office, he died by suicide on Jan. 26.

His loss is felt across the community.

Mayor Pauline Calabrese’s office released the following statement on behalf of herself, the deputy mayor, Penn Hills Council and the Municipality of Penn Hills:

“It is with deep sadness that we offer our profound condolences to the family of Officer Ryan Kingerski, who served and protected Penn Hills honorably since 2022. He will be greatly missed, but we will be forever grateful for his service and dedication to this community and fellow Officers.”

A viewing is scheduled for 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Soxman Funeral Homes, 7450 Saltsburg Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at St. Bernadette Church of Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish.
