It did not take long for Norwin to name an interim director of athletics and activities to replace the athletic director who has taken a similar job with neighboring Hempfield Area.

Tim McCabe, Norwin High School’s assistant principal, has been named interim athletic director, Superintendent Jeff Taylor said. McCabe was the Knights football coach from 1993 to 2002.

Brandon Rapp, the district’s athletic director for seven years, leaves Norwin on June 30 to take over as Hempfield Area’s athletic director. The Hempfield Area School Board on Monday hired Rapp, replacing Greg Meisner, who resigned in April.

Depending on how long the hiring process takes, the school board will either hold a special meeting in July or take action at the Aug. 10 meeting, Taylor said.

The school board is scheduled to meet in a virtual session at 6 p.m. Thursday to approve a plan for reopening the athletics program, which will allow students to begin participating in face-to-face summer activities, Taylor said.
