Area police to participate in medication take back program

North Huntingdon police will join departments in Murrysville and Penn Township in participating in the national Prescription Medication Take Back Day Program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22.

North Huntingdon police will accept the unneeded and outdated medications — pills, creams and any liquids in a sealed plastic bag — at the police department lobby at 11279 Center Highway, said Det. Tom Harris.

The police will not accept any needles or EpiPens, Harris said.

The Penn Township police will be accepting items at the Zion Lutheran Church, 3417 Route 130, Harrison City.

The Murrysville police department is accepting the items at the station at 4120 Sardis Rd.

The program is sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as a way of removing unneeded medications to prevent medication misuse.

Transit discussion at library

An overview of the Westmoreland County Transit Authority’s fixed routes and GO Westmoreland services will be discussed in a program at 6 p.m. April 26 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The program, “Transit 101,” will provide those attending with more details about GO Westmoreland and fixed route services to make users’ transportation easier.

The program is free, but registration is requested. To register, visit norwinpubliclibrary.net or call 724-863-4700, ext. 3.

Ohio bus trip planned

A motor coach trip to Sugarcreek, Ohio, to see the show, “A Soldier Boy” is planned for May 11 by Virgie Smith of North Irwin.

The price is $175 and it includes admission to the show and lunch. There will be stops for shopping and a visit to a winery.

Smith is organizing the trip under her Grandma Moose’s Happy Travelers.

For more information and tickets, call Smith at 724-713-4372.

Trails meeting slated

Plans for the proposed development and hiking and biking trails in North Huntingdon and Irwin will be discussed at a meeting of Friends of Norwin Trails at 6 p.m. May 3 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
