Norwin area: Spaghetti dinner, benefit concert, eyeglass collection, more
Dinner to benefit Hartford Heights firefighter
A May 15 spaghetti dinner will benefit a longtime North Huntingdon police officer, township commissioner and firefighter who is battling cancer.
The Duane Kucera Medical Fund dinner will be from noon to 6 p.m. at the Hartford Heights VFD, 14335 Route 30 in North Huntingdon. Dine-in and takeout will be available. Proceeds will go toward Kucera’s financial needs for treatment.
The evet will include raffles for more than 50 basket prizes.
The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12 years old. Kids age 3 and younger eat free.
Benefit concert set at area winery
A concert to raise money for two area families living with pediatric cancer is planned for 5 to 9 p.m. May 14 at the Greenhouse Winery, 2155 Gracin Lane, Rillton.
The band Knuckle Monster and acoustic artist Johnny Cardo are scheduled to play at the concert.
Admission is $20 admission. Food, wine, craft beers and raffle prizes will be available. A 1980s costume contest will be held.
Chris Guenzel of North Huntingdon and Dan Lauritzen are founders of the fundraising event, which is in its 10th year.
Manor Lions to hold chicken barbecue sale
The Manor Lions Club will hold a chicken barbecue sale beginning at 11 a.m. May 14 in the Roberts Roofing parking lot, Route 993, Manor.
The sale will continue until sellout. The meal consists of a one-half chicken, applesauce, roll, cookie and drink for $10.
All proceeds go to Lions charities. For more information, call 724-787-3954.
VFW to serve meals to help vets in need
A spaghetti dinner will be served to benefit veterans in need from noon to 6 p.m. May 22 at t the J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 of 100 Billot Ave., North Huntingdon.
Price is $8 for adults, $6 for veterans and $4 for children age 12 and younger. Takeout will be available.
Norwin Lions collecting eyeglasses
The Norwin Lions Club is collecting used eyeglasses this month, which is Healthy Vision Month, to help those unable to afford prescription glasses.
The Lions have set collection boxes at Irwin Eye Care, 511 Main St.; Norwin Chamber of Commerce, 321 Main St., Irwin; and Busy Beaver, 800 Norwin Ave., in the Norwin Hills Shopping Center, North Huntingdon. Glasses are accepted, but the cases are not required.
The Norwin Lions also work with the Norwin School District to help students with financial difficulties to afford glasses. District nurses participate and advise the Lions of students needing assistance.
