Norwin area: ROTC group to hold memorial march; trails group meeting, youth shooting day, church fundraiser and more

Norwin ROTC unit sponsors Bataan Memorial March fundraiser

The Norwin Air Force Junior ROTC unit is sponsoring the Bataan Memorial March along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail at 9 a.m. April 29.

The march for runners and walkers begins at the trailhead near Trafford’s B-Y Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Irwin plans car cruise

Car enthusiasts can show off their vehicles at the Irwin Car Cruise along Main Street, Irwin, from noon to 5 p.m. April 29.

Those interested in registering their vehicle should contact Gary Ed, chairman of the event, at 724-235-8575. Registration is $10 and entrants are limited to 400 vehicles.

Dash plaques and trophies will be awarded.

Food vendors and restaurants will be open and music will be provided by a disc jockey, Daddy G.

Norwin trails group to meet

The non-profit Friends of Norwin Trails will discuss its plans for developing recreational trails in the Norwin communities during a meeting at 5 p.m. May 3 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

West Newton church holds fundraiser

Customers who buy something at the Country Custard Cottage & Gift Shop, 1503 Mars Hill Road, Sewickley Township, from 4 to 9 p.m. April 19, can help fund the West Newton Church of God’s mission trip to a Navajo reservation, where they will conduct a Bible school.

When a customer mentions the New Mexico mission trip, the church’s mission group will receive a portion of the sales.

Youth Day at North Huntingdon gun club

The White Oak Rod and Gun Club on 600 Skellytown Road, North Huntingdon, will host its annual Youth Day on June 17 for boys and girls ages 10-18.

The event will include a full day of learning the shooting disciple for an air rifle, .22 pistol and rifle, shotgun, high-powered rifle, black powder rifle and an archery bow.

Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes. Sandals are not appropriate. A baseball cap is also recommended. All firearms and ammunition will be provided — do not bring your own.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the programs will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the club on Skellytown Road. Registration is open until June 3.
