Irwin plans Memorial Day parade

Retired Army Col. Kenneth Gongaware, a Norwin High School graduate, will be the keynote speaker at the Memorial Day observance at Union Cemetery in Irwin on May 30.

Prior to the observance, a parade will proceed from Main Street in downtown Irwin at 10 a.m. and follow Pennsylvania Avenue to the cemetery. Parade participants are to line up at the Immaculate Conception Church, 308 Second St.

The J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 of North Huntingdon is sponsoring the event.

The parade is intended to honor veterans and participants should refrain from political messages, said Kory Bulloch, commander of the VFW Post 781.

West Newton Library to hold book sale

The West Newton Library, 124 N. Water St., will hold a $5 fill-a-bag sale from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. June 11.

Donations of books in good condition, used paperbacks, DVDs and audiobooks are being accepted during regular hours: noon to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday; noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Donations of cookbooks, encyclopedias or textbooks are not being accepted.

Jewelry and food also will be available during the sale, which is being held in conjunction with the community-wide yard sale.

Mon-Yough Chorale performance set

The Mon Yough Chorale will present a Welcome Back Spring concert at 3 p.m. June 5 at Sampson’s Mills Presbyterian Church, 1665 Lincoln Way, White Oak.

Admission is free. A goodwill offering will be accepted. Refreshments will follow the concert and masks are optional.

VFW golf outing planned in June

The J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 of North Huntingdon will hold a golf outing June 11 at the Irwin Country Club, 594 Simpson Rd., Penn Township.

The cost is $75 per golfer for an 18-hole scramble. Dinner will be served afterward at the VFW Post on Billott Avenue.

There will be prizes anda basket raffle.

Golfers must register in advance by contacting Ross Wirth at 412-925-4919.
