Norwin area: First responders event, paving, scholarships

Norwin first responders will be honored

Norwin area police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians will be recognized at the Norwin Area First Responders Public Safety Event from 1 to 6 p.m. June 25 in downtown Irwin.

First responders from North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin will hold fire safety demonstrations and police officers will hold K-9 demonstrations.

Food trucks and childrens activities also are planned. Main Street will be closed during the event.

The event is designed to help spread awareness of what public safety departments do for the community and for the public to show their appreciation.

Proceedswill be donated to the Norwin area fire, police and EMS departments that participate in the event, organizers said.

Irwin agrees to pave sports courts

JM Paving Inc. of North Versailles will seal the basketball, tennis and hockey courts at Penglyn and Irwin parks for $7,900.

Borough council approved the contract at its June 9 meeting.

Council will consider getting a quote from JM Paving to paint lines for a pickle ball court, as had been requested by a resident during a recent meeting.

Queen of Angels school gets funding

Queen of Angels Catholic School in North Huntingdon received $7,000 for scholarship funds from S&T Bank of Irwin.

The money was contributed by the bank as part of the Pennsylvania Educational Tax Credit program.
