Norwin Area Democrats will discuss candidates

Norwin Area Democrats group will discuss candidates for the May 17 primary during a meeting at 6 p.m. May 12 at the Norwin Public Library community room, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

Norwin library planning book sale May 18

The Friends of the Norwin Public Library will hold a sale including books, magazines and DVDs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 18 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The library is accepting donations for the sale, held in the library basement. Payment is by cash or check. .

Proceeds will benefit the library, particularly the childrens summer reading program, according to Diana Falk, library director.

St. Agnes Church to show movie ‘Sing 2’

St. Agnes Church, 11440 St. Agnes Lane, North Huntingdon, will host a free showing of the movie, “Sing 2,” at 8:30 p.m. May 20 in the grassy area by Resurrection Hall.

Games, ice cream and popcorn will be available at 7:30 p.m.

Those attending can bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Cemetery seeks youth workers

The Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Irwin is seeking summer workers who are at least 16 years old, primarily for mowing and trimming.

The part time position entails20 to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

North Huntingdon assisted living facility gets state aid

A North Huntingdon assisted living facility expansion is among seven projects in Westmoreland County set to receive more than $14 million in combined funding through Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

Redstone Highlands Senior Living Community along Lincoln Way in North Huntingdon received $1.5 million from the redevelopment assistance program. The money will be used to build a pulmonary institute at Redstone Highlands.

The 12,750-square-foot facility will house 60 patient rooms and two family suites, all with a centralized oxygen delivery system.

Gun club to host youth day

The White Oak Rod and Gun Club in North Huntingdon will host its annual Youth Day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 9 at the club, 600 Skellytown Road.

Boys and girls age 10 through 18 can participate in a full day of education and fun with opportunities to use air rifles, .22-caliber pistols, black powder and high-powered rifles. They can also shoot clay targets and try archery.

Lunch will be provided.
