Car cruise planned in Irwin

The traditional spring car cruise will be held from noon to 5 p.m. April 24 in downtown Irwin.

About 85 vehicles have preregistered for event, according to organizer Gary Ed. The car cruise typically attracts around 450 vehicles, which are parked along Main Street and in parking lots.

The fee for owners who preregister is $8. Registration is $10 the day of the cruise, Ed said.

Syria Shrine clowns will perform and a disc jockey will provide entertainment. Food vendors will be located along Fourth Street.

Irwin hires two full-time officers

Irwin Borough has hired two full-time police officers, Eric K. Williams and Daniel Morrow. They will be paid $24.64 per hour, plus benefits.

Williams was originally hired as a part-time officer in January and Morrow was first hired as a part-time officer on March 10.

One of the officers hired for a full-time position in January, Justin Hott of Pittsburgh, resigned from the police force, effective March 31.

Irwin adds to public works department

Irwin Borough has added two employees to its public works department.

The borough hired John Wynkoop and Lawrence Wilkins as part-time public works employees at a rate of $13.91 per hour.

A public works employee, Joseph Pitak, recently retired.

Because of the difficulty in hiring seasonal labor for the public works department, borough manager Shari Martino said council decided to hire a part-time worker.
