The addition to West View Elementary School will open March 4, and extra staff members will be on hand to assist students in navigating the new part of the building.
With the addition comes a new front entrance and main office, resulting in the closing of the temporary main office next to the gym and changing the school’s arrival and dismissal procedures to how they were prior to construction, according to North Hills School District.
Buses will drop off and pick up students on Chalfonte Avenue, and they will enter the school through the new main entrance, located just to the left of the former entrance.
Students who walk will enter through the new main entrance on Chalfonte. The current entrances and exits for pedestrians along Bellevue Avenue and Perry Highway will close. All walkers will enter and dismiss through the main entrance.
Procedures for students riding in vehicles remain unchanged. Children should be dropped off and picked up in the rear of the building at the auditorium entrance. Drivers must enter the back parking lot at arrival and dismissal from Bellevue Avenue.
In addition to the new main entrance and main office, the construction project provided offices for principal Jesse Simpson, assistant principal Kaitlin Hoch and counselor John Zawalnicki, and a health suite for school nurse Stephanie Reif in the new portion of the building. There also are new classrooms, along with a new library and media center on the top floor.
One of the most visually appealing features is a central staircase just inside the new main entrance, connecting all three floors of the building.
With the opening of the addition, classrooms on the west side of the building, along Perry Highway, will be vacated so the next phase of construction can begin.
