McCandless OKs new rules for signs along roads in time for upcoming election
Temporary signs, like the ones used for political campaigns or to advertise yard sales and other services, will now have to be at least 5 feet from the side of the road in McCandless and can only be placed on private property with permission from the owner.
McCandless officials approved changes to a law that it passed last year that was supposed to prevent the temporary signs from becoming traffic hazards and litter.
Hampton graduate on track to serve on Navy submarine
For the longest time, Alex Werth of Hampton dreamed of someday becoming a military fighter pilot.
But when he discovered a love for chemistry while attending high school, he decided to take a path better suited to his talents — serving on a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine.
Couple attacked by dog at North Park when defending their dog
A man and a woman were injured while trying to defend their dog at an Allegheny County dog park on Saturday.
Allegheny County spokeswoman Amie Downs said police and medics were called to North Park Dog Park because of a dog fight and reported bites shortly after 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
Edgeworth chief John English tapped to lead Pa.’s Chiefs of Police Association
A police chief from Allegheny County with nearly five decades of law enforcement experience has been elected president of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
Edgeworth police Chief John English, 72, was sworn into the state leadership position by Dauphin County Judge Edward Marsico.
McCandless officials agree to explore imposing term limits on council seats
McCandless officials are exploring the possibility of amending the town’s home rule charter to impose term limits on members of council.
The idea was floated at the Aug. 24 council meeting by Councilwoman Angela Woods, who represents Ward 5.
