Residents across the state had the chance to try their hand at reeling in a big one on Sunday during the season’s first Fish-For-Free Day sponsored by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

The next Fish-For-Free day is scheduled for July 4.

The commission is offering the free days to open up fishing opportunities for the public, especially during the holidays, when so many people are outdoors near waterways.

To make the fishing experience more convenient on the Fish-for-Free days, people can borrow equipment from dozens of fishing tackle loaner sites across the state.

Many of the sites are in state parks, which are a popular place for visitors on the Memorial Day weekend. Loaner sites are also available at county parks and some public libraries. To find loaner sites, visit this website.
