Ross Township commissioners tabled their vote to adopt the township’s official budget and millage rate for 2024 Monday night.

Township manager Ronald Borczyk said that there are some adjustments that need to be made to the budget before it is finalized and voted on.

“We evaluated some expenses and found that we can create some efficiencies on a major project that will affect the millage rate favorably,” Borczyk said.

The vote has been rescheduled for a Dec. 18 public meeting in the Ross Municipal Building at 7 p.m.

The initially proposed budget includes more than $27.4 million in expenditures and more than $27.4 million in revenue. Both categories sit at about a 10.4% increase from 2023. The increase from the 2023 budgeted amount is primarily due to an increase in the township’s Non-Tax Revenue, primarily the increase to the previously budgeted American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in 2023.

The proposal calls for the township’s millage rate to increase from 2.7 mills to 2.95 with residents owning property with an assessed value of $134,200 paying the township an average of $395.89 on their tax bill. With the changes, the propsed 2024 millage rate will decrease.

“We’re not quite sure where it will land yet,” Borczyk said.

The township is required to have the 2024 budget finalized and adopted by a majority vote no later than Dec. 31.
