Northland Library offering variety of programs for adults this summer

Northland Library is offering a number of special programs for adults this summer. Register online, by telephone at 412-366-8100 Ext. 113 or in person at the library’s adult services desk.

The library is located at 300 Cumberland Road in McCandless.

Bookshelf Bingo

June 1- Aug. 31 — Summer returns to Northland with Bookshelf Bingo! Between June 1 and Aug 31, Read as much as you can between June 1 and Aug. 31 for a chance to win prizes.

Bi-weekly prize drawings will be held and participants will be entered to win a grand prize.

Stop by the adult reference desk starting June 1 to pick up a bingo card.

Altered Books Art Demo

June 5, 7 p.m. — Enjoy an evening with books - but not in the way you might think.

Multimedia artist Chris Fondi will demonstrate techniques book artists employ to alter old, discarded books to create journals, scrapbooks and sketchbooks.

Knitting 101

June 8 and 15, 1-4 p.m. — Have you been wanting to knit but haven’t had someone to help you learn? Join us for an informal workshop where members from our Northland Knitters group will be available to teach the basics of crocheting. Attend one or both days. Registration is required and limited.

‘RBG’ Movie Night

June 13, 6:30 p.m. — A screening of the documentary film RBG, which explores the life and career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Snacks will be provided.

Ayurveda Cooking

June 24, 7 p.m. — Indian cook Ann Manchella will discuss the concept of Ayurveda cooking, which focuses on balancing what we eat to create a healthier lifestyle.

She will demonstrate the preparation of a tasty vegetarian dish from South India called Masala Chai, a flavored tea beverage made by brewing black tea with a mixture of aromatic spices and herbs.

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. — This science for adults program led by educators from the Carnegie Science Center will demonstrate how to minus-320 degree liquid nitrogen creates ice cream in just seconds.

Crocheting 101

July 6 and 13 from 1–4 p.m. — Members of the Northland Knitters group will be on hand to teach the basics of crocheting during this informal workshop.
