A middle school teacher in the North Hills School District has received a $24,000 fellowship to help pay for his master’s degree, district officials announced.
Larry Dorenkamp received the James Madison Fellowship, which “recognizes promising and distinguished teachers while supporting further study of American history.”
Fellows were selected from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the nation’s island and trust territories this year.
The fellowships were awarded this year to 53 people from each state as well as the District of Colombia, Puerto Rico and United States island and trust territories.
Dorenkamp and North Hills middle school teacher Alexander Martinez also were awarded a summer fellowship from the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University in Ohio.
The teachers will participate in a tuition free, week-long graduate U.S. government and history course later this summer as part of the fellowship.
