North Hills School Board president, vice president remain the same
North Hills School Board members Allison Mathis and vice president Helen “Dee” Spade will retain their positions as president and vice president, respectively, for the 2023 school year.
Both of the members were voted in unanimously, 9 to 0, by their fellow board members at the North Hills School Board reorganization meeting on Dec. 6.
There were no other nominations for these positions. The terms will run from December 2022 to December 2023.
Spade nominated Mathis, noting her “time, caring savvy, energy and leadership.”
Then, board member Rachael Rennebeck nominated Spade for vice president.
“I think she served as a mentor — her wisdom, her grace, her poise, has truly been contagious for all of us and it has been an honor to be with her the last three years,” Rennebeck said.
Mathis has been on the board since 2017 and served as president since 2019. Spade has served on the board since 2015 and served as vice president since 2018, according to the district website.
Michael J. Witherel was voted on to continue as solicitor for the 2023 year as well.
There was a slight change in rates for the hourly rate for general purpose services which, will now be at $125 per hour. His fees are also $155 per hour for labor and litigation representation and a $850 monthly retainer.
Witherel also was appointed collector of delinquent school district real estate tax.
Board members include Sandra Kozera, Phil Little, Mathis, Elizabeth Nease, Deanna Philpott, Kathryn Poniatowski, Rennebeck, Michael Santucci, and Spade.
The school board of education meetings will be held at 7 p.m. in the Large Group Instruction room at the North Hills Middle School and streamed live on the district’s YouTube channel, according to www.nhsd.net. A full schedule is listed on the website.
