To commemorate Constitution Week 2020, the Kushkushkee Trail Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution partnered with Northland Public Library for the seventh annual Constitution Day activities.

As part of the celebration, local elementary-aged children were invited to participate in a poster contest titled “We the People ….”

Because of coronavirus pandemic restrictions, the Constitution Day Celebration at Northland was canceled. But the 106 children who participants in the contest were invited to join the “Bells Across America” celebration at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17.

“Although we were not able to hold a large community celebration and awards ceremony this year because of the restrictions, participating classrooms were given supplies such as pocket Constitutions, American flags, stickers and educational handouts to hold an awards ceremony for students who are attending school in person,” said Stacy Shaffer, who coordinates the yearly poster contest.

The following are this year’s contest winners:

• Kindergarten: first place, Jackson Schuster, McIntyre Elementary; second place Evie Gillespie, homeschool; third place Ramona Smith, Peebles Elementary; and Aadvik Abilash, homeschool.

• First and second grades: first place, Caleb Rizutto, Eden Christian Academy; second place, Rachel Minner, homeschool; third place Luca Amoruso, St. Kilian Parish School.

• Third and fourth grades: first place, Arantza Vasquez, Blessed Francis Seelos Academy; second place, Maggie Carroll, Blessed Francis Seelos Academy; third place, Elena Farrah, Blessed Francis Seelos Academy.

• fifth and sixth grades: first place, Hannah Wasnieski, homeschool; second place, Adalah McLaughlin, homeschool; third place Crew Martin, homeschool.
