North Allegheny Intermediate High School will temporarily move to full-remote learning today and Tuesday for all students who were previously scheduled to attend in-person classes.
The intermediate high also will be on a two-hour delay today to give staff more time to adjust to the schedule change.
The district announced on Friday that the senior high school is going full-remote today and tomorrow because of positive coronavirus cases.
There are three active coronavirus cases at NAI and two at the senior high school, according to a covid-19 tracker created by the district.
District officials said after conducting contact tracing and consulting with the Allegheny County Health Department, there is no indication that the cases are connected or that the virus is spreading inside the intermediate high school.
Plans call for returning to in-person instruction at NAI and NASH on Thursday, but district officials said they will continue to monitor the cases before determining if that will occur.
So far, there have been 43 covid cases at North Allegheny affecting 25 students and 18 members of the staff.
The most recent cases bring the active total in the district to 14.
In addition to the five cases at NAI and NASH, there are two active cases at Marshall Middle School as well as two each at Hosack and Peebles elementary schools.
There also is one active case at Ingomar Middle School, NA Cyber Academy and in the central administration building.
A total of 743 people in the district are in active quarantine. Of that number, 650 are students and 93 are staff members.
Health systems in Western Pennsylvania have been bracing for a surge in cases that health officials have predicted will occur during the fall and winter.
