Northbound traffic on Interstate 79 will be restricted at night by work on the new $46.5 million Wexford interchange, PennDOT announced Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights and as-needed on weekends from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.
They will include northbound I-79 being reduced to a single lane, and shoulder restrictions, from north of Interstate 279 to Mingo Road through Sept. 20.
Temporary traffic shifts and shoulder restrictions will occur on the northbound and southbound I-79 on- and off-ramps at Route 910/Wexford (Exit 73) through late September.
Single-lane and shoulder restrictions will occur as-needed on northbound I-79 from about 1.5 miles north of the I-79/I-279 split to Mingo Road, also through late September.
Crews from Golden Triangle Construction will be doing shoulder widening and reconstruction work to prepare for a phase change where a long-term lane shift will be implemented on northbound I-79.
Work on the new interchange is expected to continue through 2027.
