Incumbents win most North Hills races

Ross commissioners

The Ross Township commissioners race had only two contested wards.

In Ward 5, Democrat incumbent William McKellar won with 609 votes, while Republican David Barkovich had 588. There were four write-in votes cast.

In Ward 9, Republican Joe Muha received 751 votes to Democrat Zebulon E. Plotnick’s 543. Three write-in votes were tallied. Both candidates were newcomers as Anthony Bisesi did not seek reelection.

Ward 1 only had incumbent Daniel DeMarco, who was cross-filed, on the ballot. He received 1,081 votes and there were 43 write-ins.

In Ward 3, incumbent Democrat Sarah Poweska was the only candidate on the ballot and received 849 votes. There were 70 write-ins.

West View council

The West View council race was uncontested. Three incumbent Democrats were on the ballot for three open seats.

M. Kimberly Steele received 1,337 votes, Donald E. Mikec received 1,207 votes and Scott V. Miller received 1,136. The race also had 76 write-in votes.

North Hills school board

Democrats swept the North Hills school board race. There were five open seats and all five winners were Democrats: current school board vice president Helen D. Spade was the top vote-getter with 6,876, followed by incumbents Rachael Rennebeck with 6,522, Phil Little with 6,521, and newcomers Ashley Stephens with 6,224 and Samantha Ellwood with 5,927.

Republican candidates’ vote tallies are as follows: Dana Merlino with 5,328, John C. Hoffman Jr. with 5,216, April Lynn Casey with 5,104, Traci L. Brown with 5,089 and incumbent Kathryn Poniatowski with 5,048. There were 78 write-in votes.
