Festival weekend
Two North Hills traditions are being combined into one festival weekend Sept. 9-12. First, the St. Alexis Festival will take place at St. Alexis Church on Sept. 9-11. Enjoy live stage entertainment, games, rides, festival food favorites, raffles, prizes, blackjack, a flea market, bingo, a beer garden and more.
Then, on Sept. 12, St. Alphonsus will host its annual Harvest Home Dinner, a tradition that has been going strong since 1889 and celebrates the “spirit” of the harvest. The dinner is from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dine in or use the convenient curbside pickup to enjoy a delicious dinner of charcoal-grilled half chicken, ham or pulled pork with fresh side dishes made from local farm produce.
All proceeds from both events will benefit St. Aidan Parish and Blessed Francis Seelos Academy.
Family Resources Charity Golf event
Family Resources will host a fundraising golf event at Shannopin Country Club on Sept. 27. Ryan Recker, from WTAE-TV, will serve as the celebrity host for the golf event, Chipping Away At Child Abuse With Ryan Recker & Friends.
Proceeds from the event will be used by Family Resources in its work to recognize and treat trauma. The effects of the covid-19 pandemic have drastically increased parental stress, which leads to child abuse and neglect, therefore creating the need for more mental health services for children and their families.
The event features a team scramble format and includes many local celebrities who will join Ryan to further Family Resources’ mission. Tee-off time is 11 a.m. and participation includes green fees, golf carts, a boxed lunch, 19th hole refreshments and prizes.
Local corporations, businesses, and individuals who wish to support Family Resources and participate in the event can sign-up and register at www.familyresouces.org.
Ladies Day Out
Take the day off for an afternoon of food, prizes, shopping, raffles and fun, as St. Barnabas Charities hosts an exclusive Ladies Day Out on Sept. 18 at Trees Manor at St. Barnabas.
Ladies Day Out runs 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Tickets include chances to win prizes valued at more than $5,000 drawn every 30 minutes (cash, Chloe handbag, getaways and more), in addition to shopping with exclusive vendors, cocktails and delicious food stations provided by Il Pizzaiolo. There will also be themed baskets and 50/50 raffles. The event includes indoor festivities, as well as tented outdoor space.
You do not need to be present to win – you can still buy a ticket and be eligible to win prizes.
Tickets are $80 per person, and include a chance to win prizes, food, shopping, cocktails and more.
Buy tickets today at StBarnabasCharities.com or call 724-625-3770. Volunteer opportunities are also available.
Proceeds benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which provides more than $7 million in care to residents and patients that cannot afford their care.

Bid on Auction Experiences including Elton John tickets, Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction/Cleveland Weekend, Mt. Rushmore Vacation Home, Steelers and Penguins collectibles and so much more.
Hair Peace Charities was started by iHeart Media personality Bonny Diver after she beat cancer 18 years ago. Her doctors asked her to start an organization to pay for wigs needed for women fighting cancer because insurance does not fill the need. Thousands have received funds in the region, with more than 400 calling last year.
“Even during covid, women wanted to regain something cancer took away. It’s important to not be a distraction when you are at work, school or around your kids,” Diver said. “Hair Peace is hair, prayer and care as we help with information to be an empowered patient and send cards of encouragement.”
