Community Connections Fair planned April 19

North Hills High School will host its first-ever Community Connections Fair on April 19 and is seeking local businesses and organizations to participate.

The event, scheduled from 8:30 to 11:15 a.m., aims to educate students about the diverse array of career options in the community while fostering meaningful connections between students and potential career mentors. It is not a job fair.

Sought are representatives from careers that fit into any of the school’s Career Pathways, including Arts and Communication; Business, Finance and Information Technology; Engineering and Industrial Technology; Human Services; and Science and Health.

Students use the Career Pathways as they choose and schedule courses during their four years at the high school.

Event supports charities

Three groups from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Perrysville, 920 Perry Highway, Ross, will hold an event on April 13 to support local and worldwide charities, and ongoing community service projects.

The Men of St. John’s will hold a flea market, with more than 25 vendors participating.

The Women of St. John’s will hold their Christian Closet, where shoppers can fill a bag, provided by the group, with gently worn clothes, shoes and accessories for a minimum donation of $5.

The Youth of St. John’s will have breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, hot dogs and other treats for sale throughout the event.

Exceptional Citizens Expo

Ross and West View first responders announce their first-ever Exceptional Citizens Expo, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. April 6 at the Ross Township Department of Public Works, 225 Cemetery Lane.

People of all ages will have the opportunity to meet public safety workers: EMTs and paramedics, firefighters, crossing guards and police officers. There will be opportunities to explore the fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and even construction vehicles.

Service coordinators and other helping agencies from Allegheny County will also be present to educate attendees on resources available in the community.

A sensory-friendly hour will be from noon to 1, a quieter environment without lights, sirens, horns or loud equipment. A social services unit will be present to assist exceptional citizens, caregivers and families.
