Plant club show and sale

The Allegheny Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society will be in McIntosh Hall at Soergels’ Market and Garden Center from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 7. The event is free and open to the public. Along with being able to see some wonderful plants competing for medals, there will also be presentations on getting started with rock gardening at 11 a.m. and how to build a trough at 1 p.m. on how to grow these rock plants in an appropriate container. Following these programs and viewing the show, one may obtain these plants at the sale or in the garden center.

High Tea

Elementary aged children, bring your favorite person to the West View HUB for a pre-Mother’s Day high tea party. Enjoy tea, treats, gifts and crafts from 2-4 p.m. May 7. RSVP to westviewhub@gmail.com or 412-301-8381.

Block party

North Hills Community Outreach will gather with hundreds of supporters from 1-4 p.m. May 13 to host the Eighth Annual Neighborhood Block Party. This family-focused event offers unlimited fun and activities for children including games, a kid’s auction, dunk tank, balloon artist, caricaturist, face painting, bounce house, delicious food from Wheelfish, and live music featuring The Variety Pack. Additionally, the event falls over Mother’s Day weekend, and NHCO will be celebrating moms by providing individual bouquets with the help of local florist Lilac & Fawn. The festivities will be hosted at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church under several large tents. All the funds raised from the event support the critical services provided by NHCO. Sealarks

Sealarks Women’s Group will meet at 1 p.m. May 10 at Memorial Park Church, 8800 Peebles Road, McCandless. This group provides Christian fellowship and social activity for women alone – widowed, divorced or never married. All women alone are welcome to attend and consider joining the group. The program will be a demonstration of Tai Chi. For additional information, call Edie 412-487-7194.

Crisis Center North benefit

Foodies who care will gather again under the stars to support Crisis Center North’s at its signature fundraiser, Cocktails & Cuisine. The outdoor tasting event marks its 16th year from 6-10 p.m. May 12 at The Woodlands. Court TV’s Julie Grant, a member of CCN’s Paws for Empowerment Advisory Board, returns as event emcee. Pittsburgh jazz vocalist Lisa Bleil is joined by Benny Benack Jr. on horns and pianist John Burgh as the evening’s entertainment. Throughout the evening, guests graze and sip their way through the region’s best cocktails and cuisine from leading restaurateurs, spirit purveyors, and dessert creators. Vacation Bible School

Registration is open for Vacation Bible School at Northmont United Presbyterian Church. VBS will take place 9 a.m.-noon June 12-16 for those in preschool through fifth grade. Email bre@northmontchurch.org for more information. Registration deadline is May 29.
