West View Hub
The Steel City Shakespeare Center will perform “The Heavy Gait of Night,” a new play by Jeffery Chips and directed by Catherine Baird, on stage at the West View Hub at 7 p.m. on March 31. Open House
Providence Heights Alpha School will host an open house for prospective students on Feb. 26, from 1-3 p.m. Register online at alphaschool.org. Providence Heights is an independent, private Catholic co-ed school for pre-K4 through eighth grade students. It’s located in McCandless.
An Evening with Ben Stein
Enjoy an energizing and inspiring evening as St. Barnabas Charities honors Ben Stein at the annual St. Barnabas Founder’s Day Celebration on April 27 at the Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry. Founder’s Day tickets are on sale now and event proceeds support residents and patients who rely upon the Free Care Fund at St. Barnabas.
Ben Stein will receive the 2023 St. Barnabas Hance Award, named in honor of St. Barnabas founder Gouverneur Hance, who was inspired to provide medical care for poverty stricken and chronically ill and injured men and boys in 1900. The Hance Award is presented to a person of national acclaim who exemplifies Hance’s ideals of benevolence, patriotism and service to others.
Stein is a powerful speaker on economics, politics, education, history and motivation and is considered one of the great humorists on political economy and how life works in this nation. Presently, he writes a column for The American Spectator and for NewsMax, and is a regular commentator on popular news outlets.

Rotary scholarship
The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program has scholarships available for the 2022-2023 academic year. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Those attending New Kensington-Arnold, Kiski Area and Burrell Area High Schools and The Kiski School in Westmoreland County are also eligible. Vocational students, G.E.D students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools are also eligible.
Students must have a 2.5 or higher- grade point average and also must complete an essay, which highlights their community/school service, as part of the application submission.

Writing Project
The Western PA Writing Project from the University of Pittsburgh will be hosting its 10th annual Young Writers’ Institute from 9 a.m.-noon June 19-23 at the Sing Sing Sing Studio in Wexford for incoming fifth through eighth graders. Home Show
Enjoy a weekend of fresh ideas and smart advice Feb. 24-26 at the new Home Show at The Block Northway. Browse more than 100 home improvement, decorating and landscaping vendors. Three action-packed days of indoor exhibits, seminars and demonstrations will educate and entertain individuals interested in information, advice and inspiration. Fish Fry
St. Alphonsus Church and Blessed Francis Seelos Academy, 201 Church Road in Wexford, will hold fish fries every Friday during Lent. Menu items include basket of fried shrimp, fried/baked fish sandwich, macaroni and cheese, baked potato, New England clam chowder and various deserts.
