Holiday decoration contest

West View’s annual holiday decoration contest is underway. The West View Community Association has secured more than $800 worth of gift certificate prizes. Mail photos of your house to WVCA, 454 Perry Hwy., West View, PA 15229 or email lynnwebster@wvcapgh.com by Dec. 20. Judges will visit the streets to select the top three winners. winners will be announced on West View’s Facebook page and at wvboro.com on Dec. 26.

Upcoming meetings

West View council will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the borough building.

The Ross zoning hearing board meeting is 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the municipal building.

Ross’s environmental advisory council meeting is 7 p.m. Dec. 21 at the municipal building.

Ross planning commission will meet Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.

Holiday closings

Ross Township’s municipal building will be closed Dec. 22, 25, 29 and Jan. 1 for the holidays.

The Ross commissioners business meeting originally scheduled for Dec. 18 has been canceled.

Block Northway events

North Hills Cares Kid’s Day, complete with games, music and activities, will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the mall. Kids can get a free photo with Santa, and fill the sleigh with food donations.

The North Hills Middle School Orchestra performs at the mall at 5 p.m. Dec. 16.

The Pine Creek Community Band will play from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 17, and Allegheny Brass Band will plan from 5-6 p.m. the same day.

Bakerstown UMC

A Blue Christmas Service will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 at Bakerstown United Methodist Church, 5760 William Flynn Hwy., in Gibsonia. It is a service of reflection, remembrance, healing and hope. For more information, visit bakerstownumc.org.

Rotary scholarship

The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program announces the availability of scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. In recent years, at least eight scholarships of $5,000 each have been awarded. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Vocational students, GED students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools are also eligible.

Students must have a 2.5 or higher grade point average and also must complete an essay that highlights their community/school service as part of the application submission.
