Hazardous recycling event

Cranberry Township is playing host to a household hazardous and electronic waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Registration is required to drop off items at the township’s public works building along Route 19.

The following rates will be charged for recycling:

• TVs, monitors, printers and towers: 55 cents per pound

• All other electronics and items that contain Freon: 19 cents per pound

• Household hazardous waste: 70 cents per pound

• Bulbs, batteries: 55 cents per pound

• Propane tanks: $20 each

Items that will not be accepted include explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, large appliances, pharmaceuticals, syringes, medical waste, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, devices containing mercury, compressed gas canisters and tires.

McCandless leaf collection begins

The town’s annual leaf collection continues through Nov. 25 with the exception of weekends and Election Day on Nov. 3.

The town uses leaf vacuum trucks on most streets, which means leaves should be raked onto the curb and gutter line. No tree limbs, grass clippings or other yard waste will be collected.

Leaves should not be placed in the street to avoid traffic problems or clogged storm drains.

On roads where vacuum trucks cannot be used, leaves can be placed in biodegradable paper leaf bags and placed as close to the road as possible.

Residents on streets where leaf bag pickup is done can receive 25 bags per household from the municipality. Additional bags cost $13.50 a bundle. A list of streets where bags are required is available online at http://bit.ly/McCandlessLeafCollection.

Trail & Treat

Hosanna Industries will hold its second annual Trail & Treat 2-4 p.m. Oct. 25 at its Dickey Road campus in Gibsonia.
