The McCandless Police Department’s K9, Joy, will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s.
Joy’s vest will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by Lake Marshall Drive Friends.” It is expected to be delivered in about eight to 10 weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s was launched in 2009 to provide armor and other help for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. The organization has provided more than 4,000 vests valued at about $6.9 million.
Single-lane closure planned on McIntyre Road
There will be alternating single-lane closures on McIntyre Road in Ross Township between Bryon Road and Thompson Run Road from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 for drilling near Pine Creek South Branch Bridge No. 10.
Ross women receive employee recognition
Heather Royer of Ross Township is being honored as an Employee of the Year at Pressley Ridge, a nonprofit organization that provides families with hope and support through life’s challenges.
Royer is a behavioral health specialist and has worked for Pressley Ridge for more than 12 years.
Patricia Folmer of Ross Township is also being honored as an Employee of the Year. Folmer is an electronic records specialist and has worked for Pressley Ridge for more than 34 years.
Of the organization’s nearly 1,100 employees, 22 will be celebrated in a virtual reception Nov. 5 hosted by Susanne Cole, president and CEO of Pressley Ridge.
Applicants sought for technology panel
Franklin Park is accepting applications to fill positions on its new Technology Advisory Committee.
The five-member committee will be made up of residents with specialized knowledge or interest in developing technologies. They will serve staggered, five-year terms.
The committee will be responsible for developing and recommending policies and programs that address technology issues in the borough and help preserve and enhance the community’s character, according to borough officials.
The deadline for applications and letters of interest/resumes is 4 p.m. Nov. 16.

McCandless offers virtual foliage tour
McCandless is using a new website it created to host fall activities that can’t be conducted in person because of the coronavirus.
Residents are invited to photograph the most striking foliage in the town and submit it for display on the McCandless and Me website.
A poll will be conducted to select one of the photos for the 2021 official town calendar.
North Hills students plan annual food drive
The National Honor Society at North Hills High School and the Class of 2021 are teaming up to host the annual Thanksgiving food drive to help families in the district who are in need.
Food will be collected from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at North Hills Christian Church, 778 Thompson Run Road.
Items needed for the food drive include stuffing, canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, “take and bake” bread, canned fruit, juice and baked goods mixes.
Cash or checks also can be donated by dropping them off or mailing them to North Hills Christian Church, c/o Family Food Bags, 778 Thompson Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
Divorce workshop for women offered
A three-hour workshop is being offered online Nov. 14 to provide women with education and information on the legal, financial and emotional issues associated with divorce.
The workshop will be held via video conference from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The cost is $15 per person, and registration is required by Nov.12 by calling Donna Cheswick at 724-493-9695. Once registration is complete, online instructions will be emailed.
Women’s Business Network to meet
Part networking group, part mastermind group, WBN provides members with the tools to be successful while expanding her circle of influence and marketplace.
All professional women are welcome to attend a meeting as a guest for no charge. Many meetings are being held virtually, so please check with the local chapter representative for more information.
The Cranberry Chapter meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. at Cranberry United Presbyterian Church, 2662 Rochester Road, Cranberry.
