In Brief: Block Northway farmers market, patriotic bingo and more in the North Hills

The weekly farmer’s market at the Block Northway is up and running for its fourth season.

The market, which features, a diverse collection of vendors offering fresh, locally grown produce; local meats and cheeses; canned goods; local honey; fine spirits; flowers; unique hand-made gifts and more.

The market operates on Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m. through Oct. 29. It is located between the mall’s DSW and Land’s End stores.

The scheduled performers this month are:

June 11-Donna D’ Occhipinti

June 18-Paz & Ekulele Eddie

June 25-Kat Polaski.

The Block Northway is located along McKnight Road in Ross.

A number of other farmers markets also operate weekly in the North Hills.

McCandless hosting patriotic bingo

It’s time to get into the red, white and blue spirit.

The McCandless Activities Advisory Committee is sponsoring a virtual “Stars and Stripes” bingo on July 1 from 7-8 p.m.

It’s free to register for this all-ages event, which will be held via Zoom. There will be prizes for winners.

Registration is required, and a maximum of 145 people can sign up. The deadline to register is June 24. Each registrant will receive two bingo cards by e-mail.

Free cancer screenings

Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute will offer the second in a series of free cancer screenings June 19 at AHN Cancer Institute – Beaver, located at 81 Wagner Road in Monaca.

Screenings will be available for breast cancer (for ages 40-plus), cervical cancer (ages 21-65), colorectal cancers (age 50+), head and neck cancers (age 18+), lung cancer (ages 55-80 with a history of smoking), prostate cancer (ages 45+) and skin cancer (ages 18+). The event is open to AHN and non-AHN patients, and health insurance is not required.

Screenings for breast and lung cancer will take place at AHN’s Wexford Health & Wellness Pavilion, 12311 Perry Highway, Wexford.

To make an appointment for the June 19 screenings, call 412-359-6665. Space is limited and registration is required.

Genealogy fact vs. fiction

The North Hills Genealogists presents an online, free and open to the public, presentation on June 21 at 7 p.m., with Karen Stanbury’s “The Everleigh Sisters: A Case Study in Conflict Resolution.”

The program will focus on learning how to sort fact from fiction when researching family histories.

Women’s Business Network June meetings set

Ross Township Community Center is offering discounted tickets to the following amusement parks. All are good for use any day.

• Waldameer Park: $41
