The Northern Regional Police Department is hosting a free program on Jan. 22 for teens preparing to get their driver’s license and their parents that focuses on ways inexperienced drivers can avoid accidents.

“What do you Consider Lethal?,” which is being held in conjunction with Impact Teen Drivers and the Connor Johnson Memorial Foundation, will cover the “best practices” to follow while learning to drive, aspects of the state’s Graduated Drivers License program and the dangers of becoming distracted while behind the wheel.

Johnson was a North Allegheny Senior High School graduate who was killed in a car accident along I-79 in 2011. He died 13 days after his 21st birthday.

Organizers of the event note that motor vehicle crashes are the single largest cause of death for teenagers.

The program will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at Pine Community Center, 100 Pine Park Road in Pine Township.

To register to attend call 724-272-0550.
