Books were donated to libraries through North Hills School District in January.

In celebration of School Board Appreciation Month, North Hills board members’ family and friends hand-picked a book for each member to donate to school libraries throughout the district. Allison Mathis, Helen “Dee” Spade, Samantha Ellwood, Sandra Kozera, Phil Little, Elizabeth Nease, Rachael Rennebeck, Michael Santucci, Ashley Stephens and solicitor Michael J. Witherel were recognized.

Presenters read a short speech about why they appreciated each school board member, explained why they chose the title to donate in the member’s name and gave a short summary of the books.

“Mom, you are such a hardworking mother,” said Zoe Williams, Kozera’s daughter. “When we had a snow day for school, you had a bunch of meetings that day but still found time to help me ,which I thought was really awesome.”

Many of the speeches elicited cheers and applause from the audience.

Titles donated included “The Big Cheese,” “The World Needs More Purple People,” “Refugee” and “The Big Backyard: The Solar System Beyond Pluto.”
