Starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Babcock Boulevard will be reduced to a single lane at the intersection with Peoples Road for a culvert replacement project that will take until November to complete, PennDOT announced.

Traffic will be controlled by a temporary signal while work is being done and flaggers will assist motorists through the intersection until the signal is installed on June 25.

The closure calls for temporarily turning the westbound section of Babcock Boulevard approaching the intersection into a single-lane road carrying traffic from both directions, according to the transportation agency.

Peoples Road approaching the intersection will return to a single-lane in each direction. The spur ramp from Peoples Road to Babcock Boulevard will remain closed.

Motorists are advised to anticipate congestion in the area, especially during the first week the new traffic patterns are in place. PennDOT recommends drivers use alternate routes.

The culverts are being replaced as part of a $2.74 million emergency repair project due to damage from flooding last July.
