2 North Hills school directors reappointed to leadership positions; meeting schedule set
The president and vice president of the North Hill school board have been reappointed for a second term.
President Allison Mathis and vice president Helen “Dee” Spade will serve in the leadership positions for a one-year term that runs until December 2021.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the community in this way and I thank my colleagues on the board for electing me president,” Mathis said during the board’s Dec. 8 reorganization meeting, which was conducted online because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“At this time last year, we had no idea what lay ahead for us in 2020. It has been a challenging year, an unprecedented year, but I firmly believe that, while we may not always agree, if we continue to support each other and if we work as an effective team, the entire district will benefit,” Mathis said.
“These are not easy times, but I’m looking forward to brighter days ahead in 2021 and hopefully retiring the word ‘unprecedented’ from my vocabulary,” she said.
In addition to her reappointment as vice president, Spade will serve as one of two representatives on the Northern Area Special Purpose Schools Board. School director Rachael Rennebeck will serve as the second representative.
The board also appointed school Director Sandra Kozera to serve as its legislative chairperson and reappointed attorney Michael J. Witherel to serve as the district’s solicitor and tax collector. Jerry Muth, the district’s director of finance, will serve as treasurer.
The board also approved its meeting schedule for the upcoming year. Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the location and format for each meeting will be announced on the district’s Facebook page.
In-person meetings are held in the large meeting room at North Hills Middle School. Virtual meetings are held using the Zoom meeting app and streamed live on Facebook.
