1st in series of chemical collection events kicks off at North Park

The first in a series of collection events for hazardous household waste will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in North Park.

The May 4 collection event, which is being sponsored by the Pennsylvania Resourced Council, will be held in the parking lot of the park’s swimming poll.

Items being accepted include automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals and paints.

The cost to dispose of the items is $3 a gallon, cash only.

Other items that can be dropped of include batteries, propane bottles, chemistry sets, CFL bulbs and smoke detectors.

Items that are not being accepted include appliances and other bulk waste, ammunition, tires, medical waste and electronics.

More information about what can be dropped off is available online.

The PRC has planned six more chemical collection events in the region through October.

Below is a list of when and where the events will take place:

• May 18: Concurrent Technologies Corp., Cambria County

• June 22: Fayette County Fairgrounds

• July 20: Wild Things Park, Washington County

• Aug. 17: Boyce Park, Allegheny County

• Sept. 21: South Park, Allegheny County

• Oct. 12: Bradys Run Park, Beaver County
