In this screen grab, police said Bernard J. Polite attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany at a North Braddock church on May 5, 2024.

Church security has been at the top of Pastor Glenn Germany’s mind ever since a man stood up in Germany’s North Braddock church in May, pointed a gun at him and pulled the trigger.

The gun did not fire and the man, North Braddock resident Bernard J. Polite, was arrested.

But Germany will join Tree of Life Rabbi Jeffrey Myers and Destiny of Faith’s Rev. Brenda J. Gregg on Thursday to host a forum in conjunction with the U.S. Justice Department, focused on church security.

It will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church, 408 Lobinger Ave. in North Braddock.

In addition to the three clergy members, guest speakers will also include Western District of Pennsylvania U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan, Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Advisor Robert Winters, North Braddock Police Chief Derrick Turner, Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of Homeland Security Deputy Director Kristin Daniels, U.S. Justice Department Community Relations Service member Michael Outlaw and others.

The forum will provide clergy and faith organizations with resources and information on securing places of worship, facilitate direct contact with federal law enforcement and hear about grant opportunities for helping implement new security measures.

Registration is required by filling out a Google form available at Forms.gle/8FyQQ9UaBa5upP937.
