The North Allegheny Foundation presented scholarships to 16 students at the May 7 school board meeting.

The nonprofit received more than 120 applications for its 14 available scholarships, said Tiffany Thirkell, chair of the NA Foundation scholarship committee.

“This year’s applicants exhibited high academic achievements, strong leadership skills, commitment to service, involvement in athletics and the arts. Several of these students have faced challenges, some visible, some deeply personal, yet here they are. Their willingness to push through difficulties to rise from setbacks and to keep moving forward says so much about their character and their potential,” said Thirkell, who presented the awards with trustee Alice Beckett-Rumberger.

The NA Foundation-funded scholarships were increased from its previous year’s award amount of $1,000 to $2,000 this year, thanks to continued support and fundraising efforts, Thirkell said.

In addition to its own scholarships, the NA Foundation facilitates scholarships through donor-restricted scholarships and community partnerships, as noted in the following list.

The 2025 scholarship winners went to the following seniors:

• NAF Excellence in Academics: Andrew Li

• NAF Excellence in Leadership: Yuki Qian

• NAF Excellence in the Arts: Eun-Ji Jung;

• NAF Excellence in Service: Kyra Malhotra;

• NAF Extra Effort: Hannah Anderson;

• NA/Westminster: Brianna Reinhart;

• Frank J. Farina Jr Award for Musical Excellence: Ryder Boles;

• Sally Duffett Scholarship: Caden Currykosky and Garen White;

• William Rothenbach Scholarship: Will Love;

• Marilyn Mollenbrock Sproule Scholarship: Lauren Keyser;

• Laura Sosovicka Memorial Scholarship: Rachel McLaughlin;

• Robert H. Watford Scholarship: Holly Kunkle and Viola Delvecchio;

• Joseph Wissinger Memorial Scholarship: Kylie Dutkovich;

• Nathan Trapuzzano Scholarship: Grace Thomas.

“I’d like to thank the foundation for everything they do to help students from our district to meet their potential, to strive to greater things, and to help those teachers help those students,” said Dr. Brendan Hyland, superintendent of schools for North Allegheny.
